About Us

Global African Diaspora Awards

The event brings together African game-changers and high-flyers from around the world who are committed to changing the narrative and making their voice heard in their chosen fields. The awardees of African backgrounds are drawn from different countries, irrespective of their color, race, and culture.

The African diaspora has played a vital role in contributing to global development, and the GADA Awards is a tribute to these immense contributions. Through recognition and celebration, we aim to highlight the significance of the game-changer’s involvement in shaping a better future for both Africa and the world at large.

Through this recognition, we aim to build bridges and strengthen the bonds that connect us all. This unique award honors Africans in the diaspora who continue to promote and champion Africa’s interests on the global stage.

Diaspora Glitz Magazine, a high-end Afrocentric magazine, is the official producer of the GADA Awards. The Global African Diaspora Awards (GADA Awards) was established in December 2023 by Obi-West Utchaychukwu, a Nigerian media personality, polyglot, and globetrotter who has been to 44 countries. He is the CEO of Diaspora Glitz Magazine, an Afrocentric magazine based in Houston, Texas. Obi-West established Diaspora Glitz Magazine in Finland in 2019, and the magazine was the second-biggest Afro magazine in Europe before his relocation to Houston, Texas, to replicate the great feat that he achieved in the Scandinavian country.

The maiden edition of the awards gala took place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Houston. Over 300 people attended the event from across the globe, which was dubbed “Houston’s most glamorous awards gala.” The awards gala is a gathering of African diasporans who have made significant contributions to their community, host nation, and the advancement of the African cause. Those who with sheer grit and resilience, have been able to change the status quo. The awards gala will be held in different cities of the world, starting with Paris, France, in 2027.
